This Monday marks the birthday of the great Victorian/Edwardian businessman and philanthropist, Edward Cecil Guinness. As head of the Guinness brewing company, Lord Iveagh (as he became known) accumulated vast wealth, which he spent on the poor and medical charities, but also extraordinary paintings - which he housed in the opulent Kenwood House, north of Hampstead Heath. He donated them all to the nation on his death, so long as everyone could view them for free - so celebrate his birthday: go to Kenwood and see them for yourself. (Nearest station: Hampstead Heath)
