Paris's most well-known landmark (well, apart from a certain tower), the Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated on this day in 1836, having been commissioned by Napoleon some thirty years earlier. Celebrate and climb its 50 metres (there's a lift most of the way) between 10am and 11pm this Monday, to get extraordinary views of Paris all around you. (Metro: Charles de Gaulle-Ètoile)
